Milk thistle oil contains silymarin (note for Tolkien fans: do not confuse with Silmarils). Silymarin is found in all parts of the milk thistle plant; the oil itself, in addition to silymarin, also contains unsaturated fatty acids – omega-6 and omega-9. Silymarin has long been utilized by medical professionals as the basis for a group of hepatoprotective drugs designed to protect the liver. Due to its choleretic effect, silymarin in milk thistle oil helps prevent the formation of stones in the gallbladder and bile ducts. Pesticides, which regularly enter the body through vegetables, milk, bread, and similar products, deserve special mention. Pesticides can also penetrate through the skin: clothing made from natural fabrics may be contaminated. Accumulating in the liver, they poison the body. By taking milk thistle oil, you assist your liver in eliminating accumulated pesticides. Research has shown that spotted milk thistle (oil, flour, fiber, and other products from the plant) can help regulate blood glucose levels. Naturally, including the oil in your diet does not replace a strict diet, but it can help smooth out blood sugar spikes.
